Dead End Street (The Kinks)

18 NOVEMBER 1966

The Kinks ‘Dead End Street’ was released on this day in 1966. In keeping with Ray Davies' writing at the time (following up from 'Dedicated Follower of Fashion' and 'Sunny Afternoon', and preceding 'Waterloo Sunset'), the song was another sterling piece of social commentary. Despite the subject matter being working-class poverty and misery, the song has a rather upbeat and rollicking tone.
